Position Description
The IT Support Technician III’s scope includes providing technical support and assistance to departments, faculty, staff, and students with the use of basic hardware and some software support and maintenance. This position will also specialize in hardware and software relevant to the department or unit, and manage area or unit IT projects in support of business operations.

Major/Essential Functions
Install and provide hardware and software related help desk support.
Install and provide personal computer, laptop, and peripheral equipment support.
Lead Electronic Medical Records (EMR) support specialist for the IT Department.
Lead Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) Database support specialist for the IT Department.
Travel to remote locations to provide network, personal computer, EMR, software, and peripheral support to end users.
Update inventory database with changes made to hardware, the location of the new hardware, software, computer settings, when a computer was last optimized,
and any other information that may be required for future service calls.
Assist the IT Director in Analyzing, planning, and designing of IT projects. Will also be appointed as project lead on specialized projects when applicable.
Install network components.
Maintain servers as assigned at Parkwest and on units.
Maintain layouts of facilities where network equipment belonging to the department has been installed.
Maintain Health Science Center (HCSWEB) Correctional Managed Health (CMHC Intranet website).


Occasional Duties
Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with coursework in computer science, MIS, IT, or other related area plus three (3) years related full-time paid experience OR a combination of related education and/or experience OR a combination of related education and/or experience to equal seven (7) years.



Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge with various computer related systems and peripheral devices.
Knowledge of windows operating system and Microsoft office suite.
Knowledge of windows server system and Microsoft TCP/IP networking.
Knowledge of computer operations, diagnosis, troubleshooting, and repair.
A+ and/or CCNA certification is recommended but not mandatory.

Pay Statement
Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as, the institutional pay plan. For additional information, please reference the institutional pay plan on the Human Resources webpage.
